Custom Actions

Introducing the latest enhancement to Ci: Custom Actions! With this update, the [GET] Custom Action allows Admins to streamline workflows by enabling users to open files stored in Ci directly in external apps, cloud functions, or web services with all the necessary file/folder information—right from the Ci interface with just one click.

Exclusively available to Enterprise Network customers, Network Admins can create and manage all Custom Actions from the Custom Action management page in Account Settings. Actions can be applied to single or multiple files and folders, making collaboration more seamless than ever.

Want to see it in action? Contact Ci Customer Success for a demo Screenshot 2024-01-22 at 3.43.47 PM.png or to receive a set of API credentials for your iPaaS. In this article, we will outline how to use this functionality in detail.

Create a Custom Action

Custom Actions can only be created at the Enterprise Network (EN) level by Enterprise Network Administrators. Once they are created, the EN Admins can assign the Actions to Specific Networks or Catalogs, depending on the workflow required by the customer. Within a Network, those assigned Custom Actions can be assigned to specific Workspaces by the Network Administrators of the Network. For Catalogs, Custom Actions are assigned at the Role Level.

To get started, open Account Settings, navigate to the Enterprise Network Admin menu, click the Network and select Custom Actions. In the following page, select Create new:

Next, the user will be presented with the New Custom Action creation page for configuration. By default, every custom action that is created will be enabled, and the EN Admin has the option to disable it by selecting the "Enabled" toggle in the upper-left corner. The following settings are:

Display name (seen by users/members in your Network)

Description (outline the use and purpose of the custom action)

Action (the only option at the moment is our GET functionality, which is listed as "Open URL in a new tab.")

URL (define where to send the location of the asset(s). In this example, we will send the asset ID through Zapier which will post the asset to a YouTube Channel)

Allowed Networks & Catalogs (assign the custom action(s) to specific Networks or Catalogs)

The last setting – "This custom action applies to:" – allows the user to define which objects the custom action will apply to in the Workspaces. The following options are as follows:

Amount - Single or Multiple

Objects - File, Folder, File and/or Folder

When configuration of the custom action is complete, the user will need to select Create to finish:

Now put the 'Action' in Custom Action

At this point, the Custom Action is live in the user's Workspace. The user must navigate to the Workspace, right-click on a file, hover over Custom actions in the context menu, and select the desired Action. A pop-up window will display to inform the user they are leaving the site. You can optionally select "Don't show this again." Next, proceed to click the URL to complete the Custom Action:

Seamless Publishing at Your Fingertips

With just a single click, this custom action successfully published the video to YouTube—no downloads, no manual uploads, no extra steps. The entire process, from selecting the file in a Ci Workspace to seeing it live on YouTube, was effortless and efficient:
