SONY | Ci Product Updates

April 4, 2019

What’s New

  • For those dire times when you need an archived file right away, Ci now supports expedited restore. After you select the type of restore (temporary or permanent), you’ll now see a checkbox that allows you to expedite the restore. While restoration time depends on file count and size, you could potentially shave off hours using this option. Contact us to turn on this new feature.
  • More MediaLog updates and improvements:
    • The red playhead marker would sometimes get ‘lost” off-screen when adjusting the timeline scale. Now the playhead stays in the center of your screen so you know exactly where you are on the timeline.
    • When adding a new log entry (or moving an existing one) in the timeline you will now see the timecodes as you drag the start or end points of your log.
    • We’ve added an information (i) icon next to the filename near the timeline so you can view the file’s  technical metadata.
    • We’ve updated our term template format to support both free text AND single or multi-select options. This means that loggers no longer have to choose between single select, multi-select OR free text and can enter a descriptive free text in addition to the single/multi-select options.
    • In the MediaLog search results modal, we moved log labels so you can read more of the notes.
  • For VideoReview sessions with lots of lively discussions, you can now filter the comments that get exported to PDF! Simply enter the key terms in the Search field, then select the Export PDF option from the More menu at the top menu bar.
  • When previewing image files in Workspace, we enlarged the default preview size to 2000px.
  • A styling clean-up on search results for mobile users allows you to see more search results on-screen and easier to clear your search to get back to your Workspace.
  • On the Members tab of the Team Workspace management page, all team members saw a gear icon to ‘Change Workspace Owner’ but since this change can only be made by the Workspace owner or a Network Admin, we’re hiding this option for team members.
  • We made a teeny improvement to the “Change Output Location” in the Render RoughCut modal to make the button look more like… well, a button.

Bug Fixes

  • On the Network management page, when admins searched for Workspace names with special characters (like a square bracket) the results would come up empty. Search has been upgraded so you can now look Workspace names in [brackets], (parentheses) and {whatever these are}.
  • In MediaLog, the video thumbnail didn’t appear in the player window until users pressed a button in the playback control causing folks to think their MediaLog was broken. Thumbnails have been restored to the player and all was well in the world.
  • When a term template is selected from the Term Template dropdown in MediaLog and the page is refreshed, the browser would forget your selection and default to “All terms.” Templates will always be remembered going forward.
  • On the log entry search results screen, the bottom part of some lowercase characters (e.g. g, j, p) were cut off too short which turns “joy” into “iov” which is just sad and confusing so we’re giving these characters their legs back.
  • In MediaLog, the log inspector dropdown would like to hide behind the player window when it got the chance. We made sure to bring back to the front so you can see all the log details. Similarly, a long list of templates in the Term Template dropdown would get stuck behind the timeline so we brought the dropdown to the front and enabled scrolling.
  • When uploading folders with Aspera, newly uploaded folders would not appear in the folder list view (aka folder tree) in the Navigation panel. Now they should appear in the folder tree instantly.
  • When purging (permanently deleting) large volumes of files from your trash bin, our file count at the bottom of the screen would get out of sync and sometimes show you have a negative file count. Nobody needs a heart attack during spring cleaning so we’ve squashed this bug and file counts will be displayed accurately.
  • We’ve lifted the curse of truncated file names for Firefox users who use the browser zoom function.
  • The bug that prevent users to drag and drop folders while in list view has been fixed.
  • The “Recently Sent” view (for Send to External Target users) had a bug that would ‘white-out” some rows of information. This bug has been fixed so you can see all sent items.

March 20, 2019

Brace yourselves. This release is XXL.

What’s New

  • AI-enabled image recognition is here! Images uploaded to an image recognition-enabled Workspace will be processed (transcoded) and automatically recognize object, celebrities, and text.  We will also perform facial analysis and provide age and emotion detection. AI generated data will appear under custom metadata and yes, everything is searchable!
  • We’re taking metadata to the next level with the expansion of technical metadata in Workspace.  Technical metadata that we extract from your files can be found in the context panel and now includes the following video metadata: codec name, codec profile, codec settings, aspect ratio, bit depth, color space, scan type. We also added more audio metadata: codec name, codec profile, channel count, stereo/dual mono, sample rate, bit rate and bit rate mode.
  • To accommodate the rich technical metadata we now support, we updated our search filtering capabilities.  Now, when you perform a search you can filter your search results using these filters to locate your file quicker.  Here are the facets we added: Archive status, aspect ratio, audio channel count, audio sample rates, video codec, frame rate, pixel dimensions, and run-time.
  • Workspace members are now able to see when other users are uploading a file to a Workspace.  Users will see the file’s upload progress and its  processing in real time!
  • Remember when “Allow Source File download” was under Advanced Settings and you would have to open the tab each time you created a downloadable MediaBox?  No more! Now, MediaBox will remember if you expanded or collapsed your Advanced Settings for the next time you create a MediaBox.
  • To reduce any ambiguity for download options in a Workspace, we did a bit of housekeeping on our terminology.  Download options are now: Download and Download w/ Aspera.
  • Live streams can now be added to an existing MediaLog session so you can log to your heart’s content and have all the files in one place.
  • Speaking of adding files to MediaLog... you can hover over files to see which are live streams.
  • UI spring cleaning including:
    • General clean up of the Action bar, Protected MediaBox login screen (for custom-branded MediaBoxes), MediaBox access page header and modals… ALL the modals!
    • Moving the “Upgrade” option to the correct position on the Mediabox modal
    • Updates to File Request, WorkSession and MediaBox list views
    • Improved legibility of filenames on mobile devices
    • Improved handling of live streams and File Requests in list view
    • We’ve updated our mobile experience by displaying more of the filenames and added back the ‘info’ (i) button so you can get more file info from the context panel
    • To support all the additional technical metadata we rolled out, we’re introducing cool blue checkboxes and radio buttons ?
  • Keyboard ninjas rejoice! Playback keyboard shortcuts are now available for MediaLog.
    • Pause: K
    • Fast forward: L
    • Previous frame: K+J
    • Next frame: K+L
    • Play / pause: spacebar

Bug Fixes

  • For iPad users on Safari, the only way to preview a file was to select the Preview button twice(!) after selecting the Action bar.  Now, you can simply double-tap on the file.
  • We removed the “Generate” button in the File Elements on live streams because proxy generation cannot happen while the stream is stil live.  Fear not, proxy hunters! Proxies will appear here once the stream ends and ingest completes.
  • When a particular string of special characters was used on password protected MediaBoxes, the passwords would not work.  We’ve found the bug so now you can concoct your most ridiculous combos.
  • We found and fixed the bug that was causing live streams to stop when previewing on Safari.
  • In both the Add to Existing MediaBox and the Send to Workspace modals, the MediaB.. or Worksp... names were truncated.  We’ll extended the names so MediaBoxes and Workspaces are easier to identify.
  • When users updated their name in the account profile, the changes wouldn’t be reflected across the Workspace.  Updated user names should now be updated across the board.
  • The frame counter in MediaLog would confuse timecode with timestamp causing the frame count to be off.  We gave MediaLog a lesson on the different file types have support timecode and timestamp so the frame counts to reflect appropriately.
  • On the WorkSessions summary page, the right-click context menu would not appear when you right-clicked on a WorkSession.  Well, that just wasn’t right so we clicked things back into place.
  • When trying to preview comments along the bottom timeline in VideoReview, the popup would hide behind the comment panel on the right if the comment was added near the end of the thumbnail.  All comments will now be visible regardless of its location on the timeline.
  • Some users found wonkiness when trying to view all your sent MediaBoxes from the header menu. Rest assured your sent MediaBoxes are all there, but now we’ve made sure you can see them.
  • The Delete Forever and Un-trash options were hidden off-screen for our mobile users.  We’ve nudged them back on-screen.
  • Our scroll bar stopped working in some areas (list view) while it would get stuck on the dashboard page. We took out the broken one and installed a new scroll bar which works perfectly.
  • In MediaLog, the thumbnail for live streams stopped appearing in the files area.  Our fix will now display a thumbnail, but keep in mind this is a placeholder that may change once the file is fully ingested.
  • Some FireFox users were seeing vivid flashbacks of legacy Ci Workspace when logging in to their Workspaces.  We’ve collected, dusted and archived those speCial artifacts.
  • On mobile devices sometimes the “more” button would be hard to get rid of.  The ‘more’ option can now be hidden, and on larger screens only appears when you hover.
  • When adding a MediaLog entry using a term template with a lot of checkbox options, the list would get cut off. We’ve fixed the scrolling so all options are now visible.
  • If you got this far, you are the truest Ci fan and deserve a Ci sticker.  Email here to claim. Supplies limited.

January 31, 2018

What’s New

  • Ci now supports live streams! Users can provide an HLS URL that represents a live stream that you can play back in Workspace. You can even play live streams in MediaLog and log data while it is streaming (aka Live Logging!) as well as export clips while it is streaming (aka Live Clipping!) When your live stream is done, Ci casts our standard transcoding magic so you can download and share the file.
  • It’s our newest app, but we beefed up MediaLog even more!
    • We changed the video player background to ensure that loggers can see letterboxing in the video without mistaking it for the MediaLog background
    • Ci now supports import of JSON log entry data as well as key value pair log data. Please note: key value pair log data is read-only at the moment.
    • When you drag a term into the timeline, we no longer force you to edit the term
  • In the Dashboard, the avatar image on Large card view is now configurable (read: can be removed) in the Workspace branding options
  • Improved MediaBox UI so that it’s crystal clear when download has been disabled
  • We fixed the UX on the ‘Send to Workspace’ modal so that when you go to the Workspace details view you can see all of the data.
  • By popular demand, ‘Rename’ and ‘Trash’ have returned to the main section in the right-click menu options in Workspace and, for Adobe Premiere users, ‘Import to Premiere” has moved under the ‘Download’ option
  • Now that we’ve decluttered our Action bar with the ‘KonMari” method, we’re sparking joy with a cleaner UI
  • ...and always very important to include security upgrades

Bug Fixes

  • The bug on the pop-up modal to remove users from your Network has been exterminated
  • When a new user is added to default Workspace members they will just ‘appear’ (in a non-creepy way) so you don’t have to refresh your browser
  • MediaLog is designed to be collaborative but term templates are not, so we hid the ‘Create’ and ‘Edit’ term template options for MediaLog guests
  • The informational “What is a MediaBox?” and “What is a WorkSession?” modals for our newest users now have a background color to improve legibility
  • When we redesigned the right-click options last December, some options fell ‘below the fold’ and were inaccessible. We taught our drop-down options to be smart and pop-up (or down) depending on where they appear on your page
  • The bug that caused some Workspace members trying to access files in a folder to be taken to a 401 error (Not Authorized) page has been resolved
  • In Workspace, we found a pesky bug that reset your folder tree in the navigation panel if new folders were being added or trashed in the background so we gave that gremlin a dose of Cali sunshine.
  • In the WorkSession Activity stream on the WorkSession management page, Workspace members were able to see activity updates on WorkSessions they were not members of. This has been fixed so all members will only see activity on the WorkSessions they are invited to.

December 20, 2018

What’s New

  • For our largest multinational “3-comma-club” enterprises, we’re now offering Enterprise Network plans! Included in Ci Enterprise Network plans are:
    • Unlimited Company Networks
    • Enterprise Network Owner can assign Enterprise Network Admins who have access to usage  reports, member management, and Network information across all Company Networks
  • Our Action bar got a makeover! This section seemed a bit confusing if you ask us so we did some housekeeping and grouped related actions into categories like “View,” “Send,” “Download,” “Launch App,” “Archive,” and “More.”
  • Oh, and we also made our right click options follow suit with grouped actions.
  • We now break down your total storage information in the Network analytics usage report. Previously, the total storage for source, proxy, thumbnail, and element files were shown as a single number. Now you can see each of those categories broken out by file type which will really help Network Admins better understand where costs might be adding up. We’ve also added archive storage information to the Team Workspace list for a Company Network.
  • When you create a log entry with MediaLog, you can now create a new clip from that log entry and save it to your Workspace. This can be done in the MediaLog application or from search results that contain log entries. The cherry on top: If you’re creating multiple clips, we’ll remember which folder to save to.
  • Some Ci users were getting booted out before our 2 hour idle timeout limit. We made some magic happen to better track your session activity. But now that we have better session management, our head of Security made us shrink the idle timeout window to 1 hour.
  • Cleaned up MediaLog UI to make adding files and term templates easier as well as searching for log terms.

Bug Fixes

  • On Chrome, the VideoReview filmstrip would sometimes go into hiding when the video was exited out of fullscreen view. We’ve cured its stagefright so the thumbnail should always make its appearance.
  • We found a wandering ‘x’ (close) button in the on-screen File trashed notification. We trashed that sucker bye!
  • In the right hand navigation panel, the Workspace storage details in the bottom left corner will now being updated when new content was uploaded or deleted without needing to refresh the page.
  • When upgrading a Team Workspace plan, the confirmation pop-up window would read ‘Purchase’ instead of ‘Upgrade’ which is misleading so we fixed to the appropriate wording.
  • In the notification email when new Network Admins are added the branded header image would not appear but we know how important branding is so this bug has been squashed.

November 29, 2018

What’s New

  • MediaLog (beta) is the all-new app offers browser-based media logging so you can enrich your video files with timecode-based data. Some highlights include:
    • Users can predefine “term templates” for MediaLog to standardize log names, descriptions, and dropdown or multiple-selection options.
    • Publish logs to enable Workspace users to run searches against logged metadata.
    • Search results with MediaLog entries open a popup modal with log results and a preview window to watch the logged video clips.
  • In download-enabled MediaBoxes, recipients can now open a PDF preview directly from the browser without downloading a single bit.
  • When viewing the WorkSession or MediaBox management screens, we used to only display the Workspace names. Now, Workspace AND Company Network names are displayed in the Context Panel in case you have multiple Networks with similar Workspace names.
  • If you’re super into spreadsheets and analytics, Network-wide usage reports can now be exported as a CSV spreadsheet!

Bug Fixes

  • Our contact suggestion tool (aka “people picker”) was too smart for its own good predicting names when users simply hovered over a contact with a cursor. We’ve dialed this prediction feature back so we’re not auto-selecting contacts for you.
  • Sometimes after you run a search in your Dashboard, the scrollbar would break and you couldn’t scroll down the page. The scrollbar is fixed so you can search to your heart’s content.
  • In Company Networks with metadata templates enabled, we would sometimes forget that templates are associated with the Workspace when creating File Requests, so we got a Remembrall to make sure templates are always remembered when creating a new File Request.
  • If you happened to use the app filter in the All WorkSessions management screen, the filter selections were “sticking” when you returned to your Workspace view making it look like you suddenly misplaced a bunch of Worksessions. Filters will now be reset when you go back to Workspace view.
  • We found that downloading usage analytics reports would sometimes fail if there were long folder paths so we removed folder information to ensure you can always get your Workspace and MediaBox activity data.
  • We found that some Secure MediaBoxes would not redirect the recipient of the MediaBox after they logged in but take them instead to the Dashboard… which is silly, unexpected behavior. Logins for secure MediaBoxes will now take you directly to the MediaBox contents.
  • For MediaBoxes with lots of files, the page number of the MediaBox page didn’t match up with the page number in the dropdown menu. This page number in the dropdown will now coincide with the page they’re you’re currently on.
  • There was a wonky glitch between the timecode and frame number in video playback which has been resolved so frames will now correctly line up with the timecode.

November 7, 2018

Bug Fixes

  • We found and fixed a bug where some File Request contributors were being asked to enter a Contributor code before uploading their files which might sound like be a new security feature but this was not our intention
  • Sometimes when users edited VideoReview WorkSession details, the files being reviewed would detach itself so we’re making sure our files are securely fastened to each session

November 6, 2018

What’s New

  • Introduced a new bigger better “fullscreen” view for VideoReview complete with a larger preview and playback controls - not to be confused with Hotkey “F” fullscreen preview. This full-screen mode also works with LiveSessions.
  • File Notes are limited to 1000 characters but we failed at letting you know so long notes could not be saved before. We’ve added a character counter so you can see exactly how many characters you have left.
  • We beefed up our security policies including automatically logging you out of Ci if you’re idle for 20 minutes.
  • Cleaned up VideoReview experience on smaller screens so that playback details (like frame index) no longer bleeds into to the Comment panel on the right.
  • Also to support users on smaller screens (yes, you holding the tablet!), we added a horizontal scrollbar to Workspace list view.

Bug Fixes

  • Our Activity Stream was experiencing challenges understanding WorkSession status changes. We changed the status from Broken to Active.
  • In Account settings, the “Delete Contact” actions wouldn’t stick when you refreshed your page.
  • In your Contact list, some WorkSession members would show up as an alphanumeric string instead of an email address. We’re making sure new WorkSession members appear as their email address.
  • On the Network Admin page, Workspace owner mysteriously disappeared but we all know how important Owners are so we’re making sure you can ALWAYS find them. You’re welcome, Owners.
  • On the Network Analytics page, if you expanded the Workspace or MediaBox Activities, the user avatar would virtually block all the pertinent details - which is silly so we put the avatar in its place and added a clickable link.
  • We found a bug that would stop displaying metadata in the Context Panel if there was a duplicate metadata term. We’ll show all metadata terms now - duplicates and all.
  • When running a search, if there were multiple pages of search results, you couldn’t select files across multiple pages. Now, you can Shift+select files across all your results.
  • We accidentally built a mini-game where users had to “catch” the top Action panel in the asset preview screen. But we want you to take us Ci-riously so we’ve fixed this.
  • Discovered and corrected some misbehaving icons in Workspace and the navigation folder structures.

October 29, 2018

What’s New

  • Ci’s new billing system is here. All subscribers will be asked to enter credit card and billing information. All you need to do is follow the orange-brick (colored) banner for instructions.
  • The Navigation panel (when you click on the square Workspace icon on the top left) got a makeover. Updates include: 1) a new Search panel to filter through Workspaces 2) the ability to switch to Compact view to see more Workspaces 3) the ability to pin and manage Workspaces ...all without going back to the Dashboard screen!
  • Viewing files in the “List view” is now available  on iPads.
  • Once upon a time, Ci had a “View Activities” button on the MediaBox page which allowed users to make edits to MediaBoxes. By popular demand, we’re reviving this function with the addition of the “Manage MediaBox” button.
  • The search results page got a major facelift. All facets are now housed in the navigation panel on the left and organized by Network name, Workspace, and Type. Like before users can select/unselect facets to filter your search results.
  • We did some housekeeping so RoughCut users will now find the “Send to CBM” button under the “Export” options in the top panel.
  • In the MediaBox management page, you could sort MediaBoxes by the creation date, MediaBox title, user, and expiration date. And now... you can also sort by the Mediabox Type. Seemed like the right thing to do.
  • We’re bringing paging back! For our heaviest Ci users with thousands of files, we’re retiring the ‘Show more’ button and bringing back ‘pagination’ so you can navigate through files more easily. Plus, you can now select files on a page, jump to another page and your files will remain selected!
  • Some of us (including yours truly) have unintentionally deleted files in ImageReview and VideoReview when trying to reorder or ‘Like / Dislike’ a file. Nevermore! We made fixes to align the ‘Like’ “Dislike,’ and ‘Delete’ options vertically to the left.

Bug Fixes

  • Clicking ‘UPGRADE’ in the Send a MediaBox screen would open a pop-up modal behind the MediaBox screen so we’re bringing the popup front-and-center where it belongs.

October 5, 2018

What’s New

  • To avoid any confusion, we’re only going to show the “Download” option in MediaBox when download is actually enabled.
  • Small card view in the dashboard is pretty nifty but we’re making it more functional by adding file count and size.
  • We’re enabling “Add to MediaBox” to your right-click option. Adding files (and yes, folders too) directly to an existing MediaBox just got much easier!
  • Improved handling of generating contact sheet PDFs for those super-sized MediaBoxes
  • Tidied up how the upload status gets displayed on mobile and smaller screens.
  • When recipients open a MediaBox with a single shared folder, they can now dive into the contents (or subfolders) with one less click.
  • We’re rolling out a new password policy to heighten login security. If you need help creating a secure password, we threw in a strength indicator to help you.
  • Aspera users will be asked very nicely to upgrade to Aspera Connect 3.8.1

Bug Fixes

  • Attempting to archive a file while still uploading leads to a failure. Friends don’t let friends fail so we’re disabling this option until upload is complete. We got you.
  • When members were removed from Company Networks, some members were still hanging around in WorkSessions. Now, revoking Network access means members will be removed from all WorkSessions, too.
  • On our MediaBox access page, we involuntarily broke the Cookies policy link. The link has been corrected so we really hope the Sony Legal team doesn’t hold us in contempt.
  • When MediaBoxes had really deep folder structures, the “Hide panel” option would get in the way of the folders so we’ve put the “hide panel” button in its place.
  • WorkSessions will now be filtered by app type when you select the app facet button in WorkSession management view.
  • In the Dashboard, running a search would disable page scrolling which seemed like a silly thing to do so we’ll return your scrolling powers back.
  • When filtering for Workspaces in the dashboard, Workspaces with long names would bleed into the Activity stream. Suggested results no longer overlaps with the Activity stream.
  • You couldn’t add folder metadata to the root Workspace folder, but we believe in folder equality so metadata can now be added from the root Workspace folder.

September 12, 2018

Bug Fixes

  • When users advanced forward a frame at time during playback of videos, the timecode can get out of sync. Now that things are back in sync, “Bye bye bye” to that bug.

August 31, 2018

What’s New

  • Ci is going through a billing system update. During this time you will still be able to create and upgrade Team Workspaces, however, you won’t be charged yet. Once our new billing system is online you will be required to update your credit card information to continue your subscription.
  • Since introducing $peci@! characters to protected MediaBox passwords, sometimes things get confusing when you try to copy the password, so we made improvements to how we display the password to make it easier to copy and share.

Bug Fixes

  • WorkSession participants were getting the boot when the WorkSession status was changed to “Completed.” Participants won’t be removed any more so you can stay chummy with all your work buddies.

August 20, 2018

  • Ci now supports view-only access with folder sharing in a MediaBox. MediaBox recipients can view and/or optionally download a folder’s contents.
  • Introducing a sparkly blue indicator to remind you which folders are shared in a MediaBox and we’ll also remind you if you trash any files included in a shared folder
  • ...and introduced a Shared in MediaBox link in the context panel so you can now quickly see which MediaBoxes your files and folders are in (and quickly open/edit/close that MediaBox)
  • You can now combine a File Request with a shared folder in a MediaBox for the smoothest contributor-to-editorial handoff.
  • Ci now supports Azure AD SSO login.
  • Improved filtering of Workspaces in the dashboard for our power users with hundreds of Workspaces.
  • Changes to a file’s custom metadata are now displayed in the activity stream

Bug Fixes

  • When you change your Dashboard sorting preference in list view, we remember it.
  • Some members with revoked access came back to haunt Workspace defaults. Naturally, we called Ghostbusters.
  • When moving files to another folder the activity stream for that file made it look like the file was moved to a black hole. Now you’ll see which folders they were actually moved to.
  • When copying files or sending files to another Workspace, the activity stream for that file looked a little strange. This is fixed.
